What is “color in collaboration”? And, why is it such an important factor in every color consultation?
Working as a color consultant is pure creative joy, and the aspect of the job I love most is the dance of “color in collaboration” that occurs with each one of my clients. Many clients are afraid at first, but when they trust, and follow my lead, the results are beautiful.
The dance of “color in collaboration” doesn’t work for everyone, and those prospective clients that are unwilling to participate generally remove themselves from my dance card. For those choosing to join me, a lesson in color, bit of fun and tons of questions can be expected during our time together.
What is Color in Collaboration?
“Color in collaboration” or “collaborative color” are the terms I use to describe working in tandem with each of my clients to select their perfect colors. Yes, my eye tells me which options work in a given room, but not which colors will excite you to live with. A good color not only relates to everything in the room, and pulls it together, but also makes you feel good.
During my consultations I ask an array of questions about the colors you particularly like (and dislike) and I take into consideration the fixed elements, lighting and use of the room. Each of these aspects help formulate a selection of appropriate colors, but none is as important as my getting quiet and studying you as we look at color.
How Do I Know When I’ve Found the Right Color?
There comes a moment in each consultation when I know we’ve hit upon the perfect shade because your demeanor changes. You may let out a relaxed sigh, become animated, your eyes may perk up or you may smile and scoot forward in your chair… Whatever it is, once I notice it, I know we’ve achieved everything we set out to do.
So, if your desire is to have a consultant select a color without any of your input, please hire someone else. I enjoy watching your reaction after our dance of “color in collaboration” way too much to run my business any other way.
