If you KNEW that one simple addition to your room could take it from ordinary to extraordinary, wouldn’t you seek it out? THAT’S what today’s new wallpaper designs can do for you!
It’s no secret that I love the way wallpaper easily transforms an ordinary room into an extraordinary one. In fact, I believe this gorgeous room wouldn’t be nearly as interesting, and attractive, if the wallpapered wall was replaced with paint. Even if it was painted the same shade of turquoise blue reflected in the wallpaper.
So, what makes this room work?
How about the amount of attention paid to each and every detail. For starters, I believe the entire room was designed around the striking wallpaper. From the color all the way down to the soft curves of the scroll pattern, every decision was modeled upon this.
Essentially, our feature room this week showcases four colors. White, silver, dark hardwood, and the spectacular turquoise blue. Not only are the colors repeated two and three times, they’re offered in different textural mediums as well.
Turquoise blue shines as the accent color of this living room. While being used generously in the wallpaper, it’s repeated minimally in accessories allowing the color to remain “fresh” rather than “tired” from over use. Silver, also found in the wallpaper, is re-introduced in the lamp base and table legs softly reflecting light throughout the room.
Dark hardwood floors, and a built-in wooden end table, lend warmth to the abundance of cool blue, metal and glass. And, the “crisp white” used in the rug, couch, and lamp shade add a light, almost whimsical, touch to what could have easily become an overly dramatic room.
Look closely and you’ll recognize that the soft lines of the wallpaper pattern are found duplicated in not only the couch and decorative pillow, but also the throw rug. And, you’ll notice that even the glass of the table, vase and bowl have delicate rounded edges rather than being sharp and angular.
So, what is this week’s big take away?
Choose an element and start imagining the various ways you can utilize its color, shape and texture throughout the room. In this case, the turquoise blue and soft lines of the wallpaper pattern were replicated with beautiful results. Yes, this room took some forethought to put together, but with an outcome like this… isn’t it worth it?
